CINE SOLAR RODANTE
A MOBLE CINEMA PROJECT POWERD BY THE SUN!

FILM IMPACT TOURS
Here is an example of our CINE SOLAR RODANTE impact tours with the film DECADE OF FIRE. We toured 8 communities across Borikén. To create a space to explore the parallels between the fight for housing justice in the Bronx in the 70s, and current efforts on the islands’ of Puerto Rico.
DIG DEEPER
-
Cine Solar Rodante (CSR) is a solar-powered mobile cinema project that partners with community-based organizations and projects across the island of Borikén (Puerto Rico) to host curated community organizing events. Whether it is reaching communities with no electricity in the aftermath of a storm or an earthquake, or celebrating the life and legacy of social justice heroes, CSR provides a place for community healing, hope, conversation, and organizing.
-
CSR began in Borikén (Puerto Rico) in 2017 as a way to bring electricity, joy, and hope to communities struggling in the wake of Hurricane Maria's devastation and the government's catastrophic failure to respond. Sadly today we find ourselves a very similar situation in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona. We are bringing the film WE STILL HERE / NOS TENEMOS and the youth from from Comerío to screen the film and share thier ideas around Just Revocery and Just Srtorytelling. At the same time we are bringing emergency aid to communities with no electricity or running water with great love, commitment and care. Moving forward, we seek funding to (1) establish CSR as a sustained and sustainable community engagement project, (2) meet immediate and growing community demand for CSR partnerships, (3) maximize CSR impact, and (4) bring needed resources and jobs to an island where over 40% of the people are living in poverty.
-
1- Curated community engagement and trust-based community partnership models lead to durable and long-term impact.
2- Per event, an estimated average of 04 20+ community members reached in-person and 1,500+ people
reached on social media. 50+ CSR events held since 2017.3- Using solar power for screenings allows us to communicate the value of renewable energy as a tool for achieving self- determination and sustainability.
4- CSR has inspired others and is replicated by organizations including Another Gulf Is Possible in the Gulf South and Working Films in North Carolina.
